Friends of Haverford Trails Upcoming Events
HIKE: Sunday, March 10, 2013, 1 PM - Llanerch Shopping Center to YMCA Hike. Join us on a short hike to envision improvements to this trail that can link Llanerch, Manoa and Oakmont and provide a safe, quiet alternative route for access to parks, schools and the new YMCA. About 2.5 miles on mostly level terrain. Long pants/sleeves/gloves recommended due to some thicket areas. Meet at the Llanerch Shopping Center (W. Chester Pike & Gilmore Rd, "LA Fitness") at the back of Sovereign Bank. Afterward, anyone interested in helping in some light clearing work is welcome to chip in. If so, bring heavy gloves and pruners. Questions: peter.puglionesi@appliedehs.com.
BIKE: Saturday March 16, 2013, 9 AM - Haverford to Radnor Trail Ride. Level C, 12-15 mph, 20 miles. Short ride to illustrate a more pleasant way to get to the beautiful Radnor Trail while avoiding less bikeable main roads. Meet at Haverford Skatium (Darby Rd just NW of Manoa Rd). Ride will include the Septa "bus route" and area colleges (Haverford, Villanova). Part of the route may be a piece of the future Valley Forge to Heinz Trail currently under study. Ride will regroup as necessary. Please bring water and a snack, as the ride is short and we will not stop for food. Cue sheets will not be available. Leader: peter.puglionesi@appliedehs.com, 610-449.3430.
HIKE: Sunday, March 17, 2013, 11:15 AM - Envision the Cobbs Creek Trail. Join Jed McKee and historian Scott Maits for a 4.5 mile 1-way hike from Upper Darby's 69th Street Terminal main lobby (inside the doors from the street) to Wynnewood Lanes in Havertown. Includes woods trails paralleling Cobbs Creek and the Norristown High-Speed Line. More info can be found at www.meetup.com/phillyhikes on this and other hikes in their series tracing a possible future trail linking Tinicum National Wildlife Refuge and Valley Forge Historical Park. Haverford residents can take the High-speed Line from the Wynnewood Road station or any of the earlier stops (Beechwood-Brookline, Penfield, Township Line). ETA at Wynnewood Lanes is 3 PM.
