Haverford Blaze Lacrosse Holding Back to Lax night on January 19

The President of the Haverford Blaze Lacrosse Club is predicting an even better 2012 season for boys lacrosse.  “We’re  coming off a great Spring 2011 lacrosse season that saw the highest registration in Blaze history, teams winning more games than ever before and some advanced into the playoffs.” says Mark Daly, President of the Blaze Board of Directors. “We’re holding a Back to Lax night on January 19 to officially kick off the season. It’s an opportunity for parents and players and even their brothers and sisters to learn about the upcoming season, and get fitted for brand new jerseys that we’ll unveil at the event. We’ve also invited a few lacrosse vendors to attend, and we’ll raffle off Philadelphia Wings tickets and other lacrosse prizes.” The session will be held at Haverford High School, West Commons from 6:30 – 8:30pm.

Daly described the Blaze Lacrosse club as getting better every year and cites the help of the Haverford Township Recreation Department and Brian Barrett. “In 2009, we approached the Township Recreation Department about starting an intramural league for players from first through fourth grades.” The recreation league focused on learning lacrosse fundamentals and having fun. “Because our players have been learning the fundamentals earlier, they reach our Blaze travel lacrosse teams better prepared. They are starting at a much higher level of skill.”

This year the recreational lacrosse program, formerly run by Haverford Township, joins the Blaze organization and will offer expanded opportunities for younger players. Daly added that, bringing the recreational program “in-house” was planned from the beginning and now the Blaze organization is ready.
“This step will provide continuity in our lacrosse program, from the youngest lacrosse players to those who are ready to contribute to High School teams.”

For the Spring 2012 season, the Haverford Blaze Lacrosse will offer the following programs:
·      Grades K-2: a clinic-style introduction to lacrosse in an appropriate environment that  includes skill-building stations and fun scrimmages to put the skills into practice
·      Grades 3-4: a great program for those with limited or no experience. This team-based program focuses on skills, terminology, game strategy and intramural league play.
·      Grades 4-8: a competitive travel program that plays other lacrosse clubs in our region.
Spring 2012 registration is open now and player evaluations for grades 4-8 begin in February.
