HAVERFORD — Commissioners engaged in heated debate at a three-hour meeting Monday before approving a $65.5 million preliminary budget for 2010 by a 6-3 vote, with amendments anticipated prior to final adoption.
Commissioners Jim McGarrity, Jeff Heilmann and Steve D’Emilio voted against the budget draft.
Among the most controversial features, the budget calls for a 3.5 percent tax increase and elimination of 14 part-time and two full-time positions, in addition to not replacing two retiring police officers this year.
