A group of local citizens is working with the Township to build Freedom Playground at the Haverford Reserve. Freedom Playground will be a state of the art, custom-built play structure, made from composite lumber. This playground will cater to children of all abilities, including autism, spina-bifida, sensory issues, allergies and more, giving them 100% accessibility to all areas of the play structure.
The committee has already organized several events, raising over $90,000 so far. After enough funds have been raised, the playground will be built by 1,500 local volunteers in a one week period. Billboards in Haverford Township ... what do you think?
Hey folks ... chime in ... what do you think about there being 'billboards in Haverford Township'?
The following was written by: nobillboardsinhaverford@gmail.com
We held our second successful demonstration during the peak of the Friday rush hour. Almost two dozen concerned citizens from Haverford and Marple Townships gathered near the proposed billboard site at the dentist's office at 1330 West Chester Pike. Armed with some great signs, we passed out over 750 fliers and spread the word to residents and commuters. Once again we heard from many passing residents that "they knew nothing about billboards." We want to make sure that all residents of Haverford and surrounding townships are informed and understand the adverse impact that billboards can have on our community.
See the link below to see how terrible "billboards in burbs" could be - Yikes! Make sure you scroll all the way down.

Please pass this on to your friends and neighbors and sign-up for updates by sending an e-mail to: nobillboardsinhaverford@gmail.com
We will be planning another event next week so stay tuned. Thank you to everyone that came out today!!! Lets get 50 people to our next event!

Walk For The Wounded: Sunday - June 14th
Operation First Response's 2nd Annual "Walk For The Wounded"
Join us June 14th in Media PA!!
You too, can help carry a wounded soldier to safety on the home front.
About the Walk: Operation First Response (OFR) is inviting people from all over the Delaware Valley to participate in Pennsylvannia 's Second Annual WALK FOR THE WOUNDED on Sunday June 14th at Rose Tree Park in Media, PA. At the hub of 3 major population centers, Philadelphia, Wilmington and South Jersey - the goal is two-fold: 1) to draw attention to the plight of the more than 35,000 returning soldiers who are wounded, and whose families are facing significant financial and emotional challenges as their loved one recovers and 2) to raise funds to help meet the critical needs of these families, many of whom are crisis right now - today, in hometowns all across the country.
The Cause
It is hard for us to comprehend waking up each day in a hostile country, putting our life on the line to protect people from terrorists who have no fear and no conscience about planning and conducting mass murder. It is harder still to imagine how it feels to be at the heart of a bomb explosion - or to be shot by snipers - or to be the target of a single man or woman whose mission is to be a human bomb. Sadly, many lives are lost. But of equal importance are the lives that are changed forever in the blink of an eye by severe wounds, life changing amputations, and painful surgeries - often followed by mounting bills at home, necessary job retraining, home renovations and more. Just dealing with the emotional scars is difficult - but with your donations OFR 'has their back' on the home front.
Operation First Response is a national 501-C3 non profit organization that donates 90% of every dollar raised to wounded soldiers and their families in times of crisis. The number of soldiers injured in Iraq and Afghanistan is 35,000 and it rises literally every week. The staff of OFR, include representatives who visit the wounded and work with the medical staff at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, often the first stop for wounded soldiers returning from the Middle East.
The Mission
The Mission of Operation First Response, Inc (OFR) is to support our nation's wounded Heroes and their families' personal and financial needs.
